Asociatia Tikvah has had a positive working relationship with the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust in the United Kingdom and has created this page to assist teachers in the United Kingdom who wish to use the resource Hedy and Her Memory Book.

Hedy grew up in our city of Oradea and was deported from here toAuschwitz. She is still alive and well in Canada and takes a great interest in our work and is intrigued at how many schools have taken an interest in her Memory Book.

We have provided below a suite of resources to make your lesson even more meaningful:

Memory Books prepared by Romanian students and given to Hedy

Giving your Memory Book to Hedy

Hedy very much enjoyed receiving her Memory Books from Romanian schools. If an English school wished to send their electronic copy of a Memory Book to Hedy then use our Contact page to send it to us and we will be very pleased to ensure that Hedy gets to see it.

Hedy's story as told by her

Hedy has told her story twice to students at Crestwood Preparatory College in Toronto, Canada. The first time can be found here.

We suggest that teachers should view these clips for themselves in order to see that they are appropriate for viewing by the particular age group concerned.

As part of our Hedy and Her Memory Book project in 2014 pupils from schools in Oradea sent video questions about Hedy's life and she responded by video with the help of Crestwood (videos 25 to 27). She also reminisced about various important locations in her life (videos 28 to 31) and finally thanked Emilia from Asociatia Tikvah (video 32). All these videos below can be found on the Crestwood website.

Background history of Oradea and Northern Transylvania

If teachers want to know rather more about the relatively recent history of Oradea and Northern Transylvania we have prepared with HMDT a downloadable pdf.

Would your school like to have a link to a Romanian school?

Sometimes we are asked by Romanian schools if we know of schools in other parts of the world with whom they might communicate or consider a joint project. If you  are a school which might wish to be asked in such circumstances please register your interest through our Contact page.
